Fakir Piercing Workshop and new ear piercings

I volunteered my body for Fakir's basic piercing workshop yesterday. As these piercings are done by people WHO JUST LEARNED HOW TO PIERCE, they are free, with a $10 fee for each piece of jewelry. One person did my right tragus and another my left cartilage. They are both 16g barbells with balls on either end. 

I love them.

Yes, they hurt. The tragus piercer was very sweet, but seemed less experienced. While the actual needle part did not hurt too badly, the whole unscrew-the-needle and release-the-clamp and screw-in-the-ball part took forever, involved a lot of twisting and pushing of my newly-tender ear. It stopped hurting pretty quickly after that and has given me no problems today at all. 

A woman came all the way from Alaska to pierce my left upper ear cartilage. She was quick and efficient, having prior experience, but there was more pain, and there was some blood. Ew :( This one was throbbing for about two hours after piercing but now only hurts when I accidentally hit it while changing or messing with my hair. 

Listening to music while wearing headphones has proven to be difficult. Today I am using just the left earbud for Pandora consumption (The Piano soundtrack and some El Ten Eleven). I am not sure if some giant over-ear phone thing will be ok for the left ear, but there are no one-earbud/one-over-ear phone combos on the market, so I'll stick with my current set up. 

These are my first ear piercings in twenty years! That's right - I have not had an ear piercing since I was 14 years old. That is a long time.

Sized up to 8 g today, after only 1.5 months. It did not hurt at all, which surprised me. I wonder if this means I can go to 6 g quickly. I'll give it two weeks.

Just sized up to 10g!
I only waited 3 weeks and some change instead of the full month, but it feels ok. Some tightness and a slightly swollen sensation, but I think some ice will fix that.

I sized up my earrings to a 12G this morning. I put in 14G about two weeks ago. Hooray.
