Beautiful city. We're a 30 second walk from the Broadway of Madrid. Our hostal is in a super kickass location. Hostals are different from hostels; they're more like staying in somone's apartment. Like a B&B without the breakfast "B". Here is a picture of our actual room, but they shoved a 3rd bed in there.
I got a paella from a workingman's diner nearby. Meh. The tap water is very drinkable though and poor my Spanish has actually been of some use to me. I needed to buy a plug adapter for this laptop and went to the geezer behind the desk. All of a sudden, I remembered the word for "plug"!
"Necesito comprar una enchufa." I trumpet, quite proud of myself.
Rapid-fire Spanish is returned.
Hmm. Being able to construct a sentence doesn't mean you can understand a language.
I'm pretty amazed and proud of my mom and sister for showing up. They don't speak a word of Spanish yet they took the Metro and got themselves here, to the room.
