Esperanto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Esperanto - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Do you know about Esperanto? It's this language that was developed in 1887 as a "universal" language and is currently used by 2 million people around the world. It would be easy to learn, be based on common roots words, and be very consistent (unlike English and French with their crazy spellings and exceptions-to-the-rule).
I had no idea this existed. I was totally blown away. Apparently, there are several "auxiliary languages" in use around the world. It bothers me that this is so european-language based, but I guess it has to be based on something. It's most popular in Europe and east Asia.
The Esperantists of the world should unite throw some Burning Man-type hippie events where everyone has to speak Esperanto with each other. How cool would that be?

  1. you should check out "Incubus." it's a william shatnet movie filmed entirely in esperanto. and apparantly shat has quite an excellent esperanto accent. so that's one language he can act in. knowing about that movie will significantly enhance your nerd cred, too.
