I'm also altering Erin's dress for the wedding she is going to this coming weekend. I had already shortened the straps and now I am supposed to shorten and hem the bottom. I've cut what I needed to, but I had a lot of doubts about whether or not I could hem the bottom. The new machine she gave me has printed on the box, an accessory called a "narrow hem foot". As it turns out, my old machine has one of these in its accessory tray. I have never used this thing. I'm not sure I even knew what it did. However, a narrow hem it was exactly what I needed so I decided to find a video on how to use it. It works. I can't believe it
