Macanese people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Macanese people - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Okay, so Macau is a small piece of China that used to be controlled by Portugal. Kind of like Hong Kong, but Portuguese. Anyway, they evolved their own language, Macanese, which is a mash up of Cantonese and Portuguese. Still, Macanese sounds more Portuguese than Cantonese and they had names like Jose and Antonio so they generally identified as Portuguese.
HOWEVER, and this is super interesting, since abdicating back to China, the Macanese are rethinking their identity. Some of them are starting to think they are more Chinese now! Isn't this crazy? Not bad crazy, just...whoa.
