Three movies in one weekend! I never go to the movies! Last night brought a late-round of Running with Scissors :)
It was a strange movie. There was no clear point of the movie and no real ending. But I guess this is relevant, since Augusten's life (or anyone's life) doesn't have a clearly defined "goal", and Running with Scissors isn't about his whole life either, it's just about a small, fucked up chapter of his childhood. O'Grady of Super Troopers was Dr. Finch. The mother was very good too. She wasn't just some raving lunatic - you could really understand that she had a mental illness, and had all these forces oppressing her. I guess the "goal" of the movie was Augusten breaking free of his crazy caretakers and taking control of his destiny.
I wished the movie would delve a little deeper into Augusten's neurosis - his obession with his hair, especially.
I'm not sure if Johnny liked it. I think he did. He did remark that he was glad he read the book first; otherwise, the movie wouldn't make very much sense. I have to agree.
