This is Rennie Lum, reporting from the BART. 10 hours on a plane and I'm heading to the office. How good an employee am I?
The flight wasn't bad at all. We were fed no fewer than 4 times. Courtesy of Virgin's kick ass entertainment scheme, I watched two episodes of the Family Guy, the Simpsons, the US Office, 4 episodes of an excellent British series called Peep Show, my favorite episode of the Mighty Boosh, "Pan's Labirynth", and a really good movie called "This is England". It's kind of like a British "American History X" but it didn't make me cry. There was no anti-Semitic violence in this one.
"Pan's Labirynth" was good but I but since it won all these awards, I was expecting a lot from it. It was good, sure, but was kind of spoiled by the hype. I was trying to follow along with some of the Spanish. The word for "human" is the same as the word for "hand" which was a really cool revelation. It was so obvious to the Spanish (or the Romans perhaps) that what set us apart from everything else was our capacity for logic and our hands. Would it be too elitist to call ourselves "brain"?
Why are the Americans so nasal? Do I speak like this too? Everyone sounds like they're whining.
